BreatheWell, Myofunctional and Early Appliance Therapy
Our Phase 1 treatment package for young patients is to address individual concerns regarding oral development. Phase 1 “orthotropics” is a growth modification treatment philosophy that attempts to restore growth to more ideal proportions. In general, Phase 1 treatment utilizes a combination of appliances, sometimes with minimal use of brackets to assist movement. Soft tissue functional therapies, Myofunctional and BreatheWell therapies are encouraged.
Focus is heavily placed on the BreatheWell and Myofunctional components of treatment. These programs are instrumental in helping appliances work to their optimum advantage so that the best possible results may be realized. The overall goals hoped for may involve some or all of the following: improved airway, better breathing habits, correct tongue position and the establishment of more space for permanent teeth to erupt in a less crowded position if crowding is an issue.
Each patient’s Phase 1 situation, goal and length of treatment is unique in that no two patients respond the same. Once appliances have done all they can do there may be additional treatment, Phase 2 (Braces), required sometime afterward and once all permanent teeth are present.
Phase 1 treatment as described above is a growth modification phase and Phase 2 is a possible, sometimes expected, continuation of treatment to finish what the appliances cannot do. We are dedicated to helping our patients achieve the benefits of long-term health and wellness.
